Costco, Americas Best or a local eyeglass store

Getting the best value for your money when it comes to eyeglasses, sunglasses, eye exams, and contact lenses.

Hey guys.

Has anyone gotten their lenses from americas best? I'm deciding between Costco, Americas Best or a local eyeglass store. My Rx is about -5 in both eyes, I am getting the 1.67 index for sure, but is it worth getting it upgraded to 1.74? My frames are square shaped with thicker acetate.

Personally, I trust Costco's quality and customer service (as far as backing their product and refunding money if there are any problems) compared to America's Best. A private optometrist may give better service and possibly better quality, but you will pay more money for that.

You can read more reviews on America's Best in this thread.

As to the differences in thickness, at your prescription strength there isn't much difference between 1.67 and 1.74, maybe a difference between a 5mm edge width and a 4.7mm edge width. If the price is almost the same, it may make sense. The optician may be able to give more accurate recommendations.

Thanks for your answer. I did go look at a few local optical stores and although they did use the nice shamir lenses they charged about 400 dollars just for lenses out of pocket. I went to Costco and payed like 98 dollars for the high index with anti reflective and anti scratch lenses for my own frames. The lady at the counter did say there was a chance the lab may deny them, but fingers crossed!
